Jonathan Dwight Jones best referred to as Jon Jones is an American mixed martial artist and former UFC light heavyweight champion. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest fighters in MMA history and has a long list of accomplishments to his name. He currently holds the title of the UFC heavyweight champion after being a 2-time lightweight champion for years.

Let’s get a bit personal about Jon Bones: who is he? Born on the 19th of July, 1987, in Rochester, New York, Jon Jones comes from a family with a long history of sports. His father was an amateur boxer and a pastor at Mount Sinai Church in Christ situated in New York. His mother died in 2017 from diabetes. Jones was one of four children. His older brother; Arthur Jones III is also a professional MMA fighter and a former American football player. His younger brother, Chandler, remains an American football player; he plays for Las Vegas Raiders as an outside linebacker. He had one sister, Camille, tragedy however struck as she lost her life to a brain tumor just before she turned 18.
Career
Jon began his career in 2008 when he debuted in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Since then, he has gone on to become one of the most successful fighters in the promotion’s history, winning multiple titles along the way. Jones became the youngest champion ever in the history of the UFC at age 23. This he earned in his famous victory over MMauricioRau. He has an amazing record of 29 fights out of which he won 27, he lost 2 and those losses were controversial. One of them was by disqualification and the other a no-contest. No fighter has ever outshined, outscored, or ever stopped jones in his professional career.
Jones has been involved in several controversies over the years. He hasĀ received disciplinary actions that have cost him his title/belt three times; he was first arrested for hit-and-run, and after serving a suspension, he tested positive for substance abuse. Despite all these, he came back from a three-year break to become the current heavyweight champion of the UFC after defeating Cyril Gane in March 2023.
